Douce tentation

Auteure: K.c. Lynn

Neutron Scattering in Layered Copper-Oxide Superconductors

Neutron Scattering in Layered Copper-Oxide Superconductors

Auteure: Albert Furrer

Nombre de pages: 416

The phenomenon of superconductivity - after its discovery in metals such as mercury, lead, zinc, etc. by Kamerlingh-Onnes in 19]] - has attracted many scientists. Superconductivity was described in a very satisfactory manner by the model proposed by Bardeen, Cooper and Schrieffer, and by the extensions proposed by Abrikosov, Gorkov and Eliashberg. Relations were established between superconductivity and the fundamental properties of solids, resulting in a possible upper limit of the critical temperature at about 23 K. The breakthrough that revolutionized the field was made in 1986 by Bednorz and Muller with the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity in layered copper-oxide perovskites. Today the record in transition temperature is 133 K for a Hg based cuprate system. The last decade has not only seen a revolution in the size of the critical temperature, but also in the myriads of research groups that entered the field. In addition, high-temperature superconductivity became a real interdisciplinary topic and brought together physicists, chemists and materials scientists who started to investigate the new compounds with almost all the available experimental techniques and...

Switch Reference and Universal Grammar

Switch Reference and Universal Grammar

Auteure: John Haiman , Pamela Munro

Nombre de pages: 358

Canonical switch-reference is an inflectional category of the verb, which indicates whether or not its subject is identical with the subject of some other verb. Switch-reference may be analyzed from a structural or a functional point of view. Functionally, switch-reference is a device for referential tracking. Formally, switch-reference is almost always a verbal category, similar to the familiar category of verbal concord. In most languages switch-reference marking is indicated by a verbal affix, however in some languages it may be marked by an independent morpheme. The contributions to this volume are concerned with questions of form, function, and genesis of canonical switch-reference systems.

Nombre de pages: 400

Climate change not only involves rising temperatures but it can also alter the hydro-meteorological parameters of a region and the corresponding changes emerging in the various biotic or abiotic environmental features. One of the results of climate change has been the impact on the sediment yield and its transport. These changes have implications for various other environmental components, particularly soils, water bodies, water quality, land productivity, sedimentation processes, glacier dynamics, and risk management strategies to name a few. This volume provides an overview of the fundamental processes and impacts of climate change on river basin management and examines issues related to soil erosion, sedimentation, and contaminants, as well as rainfall-runoff modeling and flood mitigation strategies. It also includes coverage of climate change fundamentals as well as chapters on related global treaties and policies.

Cases on Innovative and Successful Uses of Digital Resources for Online Learning

Auteure: Sullivan, Pamela , Sullivan, Brian , Lantz, Jessica

Nombre de pages: 416

Education at all levels will continue to be dominated by technology for the foreseeable future. The rush to respond to the health concerns of the pandemic led to a mass adoption of online learning tools without careful consideration and placement within a conceptual framework that would have occurred prior to adoption in best practice scenarios. Cases on Innovative and Successful Uses of Digital Resources for Online Learning evaluates and describes successful initiatives in remote and hybrid learning during the pandemic disruption to traditional schooling for early childhood through college and job training levels. During the pandemic disruption, remote and hybrid tools were adopted rapidly without the benefit of careful utilization. This text conducts that careful consideration in the past tense. Covering topics such as artificial intelligence, connected learning, and educational simulation games, this book is an excellent reference for educators of K-12 and higher education, school faculty and s, researchers, pre-service teachers, policymakers, and academicians.
